Bucktown, that opening was huge! Despite freezing temperatures and snow falling outside, the energy inside GYG Bucktown was electric. A massive thank you to everyone who braved the cold and came out to celebrate the opening of our brand-new Guzman y Gomes Bucktown restaurant, you made our first-ever Chicago city opening one to remember 🙌
Opening day was extra special as GYG Bucktown marks our eighth restaurant in the Chicagoland area and our very first location within the city of Chicago. From the moment doors opened at 7am, locals came through all day long for brekkie, lunch, dinner, and even late-night feeds, with the restaurant trading right through until 1am.Â
The day kicked off strong with a big brekkie rush, and if you missed out on free coffee on opening day, don’t worry, GYG Bucktown is still serving free coffee with any main-menu brekkie item. With guests calling it “the cheapest food in Bucktown,” it’s safe to say the $5 Burritos and Bowls were a hit from the very first order.Â
The vibes stayed high all day with live music, big merch giveaways, and nonstop action behind the counter. The dinner rush was massive, with locals pouring in from across Bucktown and Wicker Park to check out Chicago’s newest GYG. Even Skates, the Chicago Wolves mascot, dropped by to join the fun and fire up the crowd, an opening-day highlight.Â
GYG is proud to be joining forces with the Chicago Wolves, in the American Hockey league as an official partner as part of a multi-year partnership. The Wolves, one of the AHL’s most decorated and community-driven teams, have been a Chicago sports staple since 1994 – winning five championships, developing top-tier talent and inspiring thousands of fans each season. Â
“The Wolves organization is thrilled to welcome Guzman y Gomez Mexican Kitchen to our partnership family, and we’re excited to be one of its first sports partnerships in the Chicago market.  The values that GYG adheres to as a company are inspiring and align well with the Chicago Wolves. Oh, and the food is fantastic!” said Jon Sata, President, Business Operations.Â
Opening day also saw support from across the GYG family, with top leaders and crew members from our other seven Chicagoland restaurants jumping in to help deliver an epic guest experience during one of our busiest days yet. Adding to the excitement, Founder and Co-CEO Steven Marks was in attendance to celebrate this huge milestone with the team and welcome guests to GYG!.Â
Located in the heart of Bucktown and Wicker Park, GYG Bucktown is serving up fast, fresh Mexican-inspired food on the go, seating 12–14 guests inside and serving the neighborhood from morning through late night. The opening has already created around 40 local jobs, with the team still growing and always on the lookout for passionate crew to join the GYG family.Â
If you haven’t made it in yet, there’s even more reason to check us out! You can score a free burrito when you download the GYG App: https://gygus.app.link/downloadthegygappÂ
